Way back in 1990, I cut my teeth on my first official job, attendant at a gas station in Portsmouth, OH. I began practicing the work ethic I had already been taught by my parents and older siblings. During the next ten-plus years there and around Columbus, OH, I racked up a great deal of customer service experience in retail and food service. I worked my way into management positions during that time as well. Learning how to manage a business has been beneficial, and learning to be competent, honest and genuine in taking care of my customers was ingrained in me from the start.
A love for how things work, fixing and building usually put me in a position to do odd handyman jobs here and there. This led me to my next step. After studying and earning some required certifications, I made the move into residential maintenance in 2003. This led to a decade of hard work, learning, and moving upward from service tech to service manager, heading up maintenance teams on large apartment properties and running special projects such as multi-unit remodels.
In 2014, I began an education course toward my State of Florida Home Inspector License, which I earned later that year. I began contracting as an inspector for a local home inspection firm in 2015, a good relationship lasting 7 years. During this time I continued to amass knowledge and experience, and building many good relationships in the real estate business. I worked hard to become one of the most trusted and thorough home inspectors in the area, an achievement on which I pride myself.
Having made many colleagues and good friends in the industry, I decided to study for my real estate sales associate license in 2018, which I still hold. Don’t worry, I don’t inspect properties on which I am involved as a real estate agent – ethics and honesty are at the core of who I am. My time practicing real estate has given me perspective from both sides of the other services I am providing, and insight on how to best offer them.
Over the past few years I took an interest in drones, beginning with their obvious usage for home inspections. I earned my FAA drone pilot license in 2021 and began learning and perfecting those skills. The step from drone inspections to real estate aerial photography was obvious, and I was excited to learn and offer those services. I am still expanding on that aspect, gaining new skills and experience to offer better quality services and new services as well.
Shortly after came the realm of 3D virtual tours. My affinity for electronics and gadgets continues to take me in new directions, and the ability to combine hobbies with valuable services is gratifying. After significant time establishing and practicing the ins and outs of 3D tours, they have become even more popular than my original drone service offerings, with many happy clients.
I made my way to the real estate media business mostly from piloting a drone, and not from traditional photography as most would. But knowing that standard listing photography is expected in a business such as mine, I have recently announced the addition of this service. As well, I have also added walk-through videos with the option of professional narration. I have invested in the proper equipment and education necessary to offer these as quality, professional services, with good results thus far. And as with all the skills I bring to the table, I strive to learn and improve continually.
I am also happy to partner with Hannah of Hannah Moser Interiors to offer virtual staging for listing photos. Hannah has recently launched her interior design business, and is highly recommended for making the rooms in your home look top-notch.
Now in 2024, I am excited to begin offering both Residential Home Inspections and the Thompson’s Toolbox Handyman Service to my offerings. I am once again able to bring my years of experience and work ethic to bear for your inspection and maintenance needs.
Other than the arrangement mentioned above, I pride myself on being a small business – one man. In scheduling, service, billing and most any other aspect of my business, I will be there personally to see to your needs. I will always strive to be prompt in answering communication, but I prefer to ask your patience while I finish a task so I can help you myself. This ensures there are no others doing aspects of my business in ways I may not want, or dealing with my clients in less than professional ways.
